On August 12, 2013, Dr. Hardy Murphy, announced his resignation as District 65 Superintendent of Schools to pursue consulting opportunities (effective August 13, 2013). Dr. Murphy served as the superintendent for Evanston/Skokie School District for 13 years. Later that month, the Board of Education announced that it would commence a search process with the expectation that a new superintendent would be hired to begin serving the school district community for the 2014-15 school year.
At a special meeting on August 23, 2013, the Board of Education appointed Ms. Barbara Hiller as the Chief Administrative Officer and Dr. Mary Brown as the Interim Superintendent. Ms. Hiller retired from District 65 in 2005 and during her tenure was a teacher, principal at Nichols Middle School, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction. Dr. Brown, the district’s business manager, was designated to perform duties under Illinois State Law required to be handled by a state-endorsed superintendent.
